In a dispute involving domestic violence on Thursday afternoon in Nashville, police shot and killed Mark Capps, a renowned producer and recording engineer who was 54 years old.
According to Nashville police, Capps was shot and killed by a SWAT squad member while holding a gun at his doorway. He was earlier accused of holding his wife and his stepdaughter, who is an adult, at gunpoint inside the home.
At the time of his murder, Capps was wanted on warrants for aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping. At around three in the morning, according to Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron, Capps held his 60-year-old wife and 23-year-old stepdaughter at gunpoint in their family room and threatened to kill them if they called anybody.
The two women escaped and went to the Hermitage precinct to tell them what had happened when he went to sleep. Shortly after the warrants were issued at 1:55 p.m., the SWAT team confronted him and shot him.
Capps collaborated with several well-known musicians, including Barry Manilow, the Dixie Chicks, Neil Diamond, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Brooks & Dunn, and Alabama.
